POST COMMANDER’S
MESSAGE
September 1, 2010
My Fellow Legion Members,
It gives me great pleasure, and I deem it an honor to be your new
Post Commander for 2010, 2011.
Although
fairly new to the American Legion, I have always had a great pride in knowing veterans
during my lifetime. I have always gone the extra step
in making sure our vets are recognized by
either
a friendly handshake, hug or both, thanking them for their service to our country. I have given several
programs to different organizations on WW2 aircraft, and the role for which the brave men who flew them played in winning
the war to end all wars. Every American, whether they were involved in Combat, home front, or otherwise
are owed a debt that can never be repaid.
As your new Post Commander, I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to attend our meetings
held the second Monday of each month, (unless otherwise stated), and our second meeting on the fourth Monday, which usually
has some form of entertainment. There are a lot of stories that should be told out there. I want to offer
you this opportunity to share them with us over the next year.
Now as another page is turned out of Afghanistan and Iraq, we have more veterans
coming home,
hopefully for good.
If you know any of these men or women, please encourage them to join our Post
284. We need to keep this great organization going but we
can't do it unless we have new members!
We have some great officers at our Post, who put in a lot of their own time in making sure things
run smoothly. Without even naming
names, you know who you are and I thank you! We are also honored each meeting with two individuals who
need to be recognized for 'their great service and guidance to our Post. Past District Commander Phillip
Lupien, and his son, Sons of the American Legion Commander, David Lupien. Both give us great service and
guidance, and I thank them for being there for us. If you need to know anything about the Legion or Vets,
they are the ones to ask!!
Enclosed is the new schedule for 2010-2011. Please, if you can, get involved in our meetings and
activities. I marched in the
Memorial Day Service here in Bryan for the very first time, and was moved to tears during the ceremony. I
marched in the Jubilee Parade too! I was in awe of what people actually think of us as veterans.
Some, not even knowing who I was, came up and shook my hand, thanking me for my service. What more
of an honor would you ever want than that? That's what our American Legion Post 284 is all about!!
I for one am very excited about the upcoming year,
and hope with your help, to make it the BEST YEAR EVER!!!
All the best,
Marty Potts, Commander
American
Legion Post 284
