POST COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
September 1, 2011
My
Fellow Legion Members,
Once again, I am honored to be your Post Commander for the 2011-2012 year. A lot has happened over
the last year, and now, hopefully we can make some improvements to our Post.
Again, as your Post Commander,
I encourage you to attend the meetings held the second and fourth Mondays of each month, unless otherwise stated in the schedule.
Anyone who is interested in scheduling a program for the last meeting of each month is encouraged to do so.
With good advertisement, we can hopefully get a few more people to attend. They will tell their
friends, and so on. I look forward to seeing lots of people with some great programs to put our Post on
the map!!
So many are coming back from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Take the time to invite some of them
to join our Post! We need some younger members to keep our Post active!
I want to thank
all those who take a lot of their own time to get things done in and around the Post building. Your efforts
are appreciated, and without you, it wouldn’t get done!! Also, attending our meetings each month
are two great councilors to our Post. The first is Past District Commander Phillip Lupien and the second
is the Sons of American Legion Commander David Lupien. Both are “Books” of knowledge where
the American Legion and SAL are concerned. If you haven’t read “Veterans History, Williams
County Ohio” you need to do so. This book was put together by David Lupien and is the most comprehensive
look at the history and dates of all the Vets of Williams County, Ohio from the Revolutionary War to the Persian Gulf!
This is a must read for anyone who loves War History, and is from our own County!! Thank you David
for your fine work on that book!! A copy
of the book can be found in our museum room (as soon as I get done with it).
I again marched in the Memorial
Day Parade, and again was moved by the patriotism shown by our neighbors! Same with the Bryan Jubilee Parade.
What a difference from the Viet Nam era!! So many people came out to honor those who have served
and who had given the ultimate sacrifice for their country! You should be proud to be a part of these programs.
I know I am.
In closing, let’s try to make the upcoming year, the best ever! Let’s bring in some
new members, and attend the meetings. Without you, we can’t keep the Post Alive!!
All the best,
Marty Potts, Commander

SAL COMMANDER’S MESSAGE
Sons
of the American Legion
Squadron 284
We are seeing some changes. This is your 22 year
as a squad in Bryan. I am hopeful that those in the area will make an effort to come to our monthly meeting
held on the 4th Monday of the month except July and August. I also want to announce that we are shooting to have our membership
completed by November 11 VETERANS DAY. Send your $10 dues to the Commander. I will get
billing notices sent out in Late September to remind you all.
I want to announce a special meeting program that SAL and SAR are co-sponsoring in September. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER
17 we will be holding a CONSTITUTION DAY GALA DINNER PROGRAM at Northwest State Community College. The keynote speaker will
be State Senator Cliff Hite. Dinner tickets are $20.00 per person and are prepaid and limited to 180. The
event will be held in the Voinivich Auditorium. More will be promoted in the area radio and newspapers
in late August and early September. Call Commander David Lupien for reservations or have questions answered concerning this
project.
Let’s get on the ball and get active and assist the American Legion in carrying out their programs
for God and Country! See you all soon.
David L. Lupien, Commander
Squadron 284,
Bryan

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
As your Auxiliary President I want
to once again thank everyone who did participate in our meetings and projects. To our new members, receiving
this newsletter for the first time, I want to welcome and encourage you to attend some or all of our meetings.
.
We are chartered not only to support the National and Department of Ohio organizations, but it is our desire to continue
to aid the Ohio Veterans Hospitals, the Girls State program for our Bryan High School Junior girls, and our own American Legion

We meet four times a year for fellowship, and to plan ahead
on how to reach our objectives. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Some member
will call to remind you of the date for our next get-together. I hope to see you soon. If
you have any questions call me at 419-636-0795, or eMail me at katjimping@cityofbryan.net.
